So you’re new to safety: An introduction to workplace safety.
Biography: Mark is the Health and Safety Director for Rudolph Libbe Inc., a Rudolph Libbe Group company. A Certified Safety Professional with more than 40 years of construction safety experience, Mark serves as a consultant to management, supervision and field associates, providing guidance and technical assistance to help achieve the goal of safety excellence. He is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Professionals and serves in a leadership role on the Associated General Contractors’ (AGC) National Safety and Health Committee. He also is a member of the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) national safety committee and the AGC of Ohio safety committee.
Fitness for duty and legal aspects for the safety professional.
Biography: Carl is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Management at the University of Findlay. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate regulatory compliance courses. He is also an attorney licensed to practice in Ohio and Federal Courts with over 30 years’ experience in assisting companies as well as safety and health professionals with EPA and OSHA regulatory compliance. He is an active member in the Safety Council of Northwest Ohio including acting as Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee. Carl is a former Staff Hearing Officer of the Industrial Commission of Ohio with experience adjudicating disputed issues involving workplace injuries and occupational diseases. He has assisted safety and health professionals in developing safety policies, employment policies and environmental protection policies designed to protect employees from workplace hazards. He is OSHA 30 hours certified in both General Industry and Construction and retains certifications as a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist and Certified Occupational Safety Manager. His research is focused on the impact that non-occupational factors such as geography and cultural issues might have on occupational health hazards.
Biography: Roman “Ray” Arce has been with Marshall & Melhorn since 1992. He has more than 30 years of experience in labor and employment law, and in 2021, became a Certified Specialist in Labor and Employment Law through the Ohio State Bar Association. Ray represents employers in cases concerning labor and employment law and counsels employers on how to comply with the requirements of OSHA, ADA, FMLA, affirmative action, and EEO laws. Ray is also active in the greater Toledo community, serving as board member for various non-profit organizations over the years.
Medical marijuana in the workplace for the safety/HR professional.
Biography: Jim Yates is a Member of Eastman & Smith Ltd.’s Labor and Employment practice group and a SHRM Certified Senior Professional who has represented employers in employment and workplace safety matters for over 25 years. He represents employers in all facets of employment and workplace safety issues including workers’ compensation matters, defending workplace intentional tort claims and defending employers in OSHA matters throughout the country. He regularly consults with safety professionals and human resource professionals regarding the drafting and implementation of employment and safety related policies and conducts supervisor training. Jim is a frequent speaker at seminars regarding numerous employment law and workplace safety topics. He is active in the various Chambers of Commerce, human resource associations, safety councils, and contractor associations.
Ohio EPA’s OCAPP Services and Regulatory Updates
Biography: Tom and Jeremy are Environmental Specialists who work with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA), Office of Compliance Assistance and Pollution Prevention (OCAPP), helping small businesses navigate the complex requirements of environmental regulations. OCAPP services are both free and confidential. They both have had the opportunity to expand their environmental regulations knowledge by working in different programs within Ohio EPA, such as the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) and the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC) as inspectors. Before joining the Ohio EPA in the public sector, both worked in private industry providing environmental compliance support.
OSHA Update and Q&A with the AD.
Biography: Todd has worked for OSHA for 24 years and was recently promoted to Area Director for the Toledo Area office in November 2021 covering 26 counties in Northwest Ohio. Todd specializes in foundries, steel mills, heavy manufacturing, and Process Safety Management.
