Presenter: Paula Burleson
Biography: Received a Bachelors of Science degree from Ohio University and a Masters in Environmental Management from the University of Findlay. Worked at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant as an operator, process supervisor, and Production Division Safety Coordinator from 1977 to 1985. Spent six years at The Ohio State University in the Environmental Occupational Health and Safety Department, writing safety programs, performing asbestos audits, and teaching welding, chemical and electrical safety classes to university students and employees. Became associated with environmental and hazardous waste issues and construction safety while acting as Safety Manager for a small consulting firm in Columbus, Ohio for three years. Served as a safety officer on hazardous waste sites, wrote site-specific safety and health programs for HAZWOPER projects and performed industrial hygiene monitoring for site contaminants. In 1997 returned to work with the state in the OSHA Onsite Consultation Program, with primary emphasis on performing construction site safety inspections. In 1999 earned the prestigious designation of Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP). Currently performs inspections for construction employers throughout the state, is an authorized trainer of the 10 and 30 hour Construction Safety classes and provides reviews of safety and health programs and workplace safety policies and procedures.
