Previously found only in the realm of science fiction, exoskeletons have been successfully used in medical rehabilitation, the military and more recently, in manufacturing jobs. Learn more about what exoskeletons are and what they can (and cannot) do. Exoskeletons hold many promises, but what are the unintended consequences of this unproven technology?

    Bio: Dr. Delia Treaster
    Dr. Delia Treaster is the Ergonomic Technical Advisor for the Division of Safety and Hygiene at BWC. She is a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) with over twenty years’ experience helping companies reduce their risk of ergonomic injuries. She has conducted training on basic principles of ergonomics, ergonomic risk factors, and ways to improve workplaces. Prior to joining BWC, Dr. Treaster worked as a Research Scientist at Battelle Memorial Institute, a Senior Ergonomic Specialist at Travelers Insurance, and an ergonomic contractor with Humantech. She holds a Masters degree in Human Factors Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Occupational Biomechanics, both from Ohio State University.

    Bio: Ian McClellan
    Ian McClellan is a seasoned Marketing Leader with a technology tilt. A 2004 graduate of Ohio University, he has worked on both the agency side and corporate side of Marketing. He started his career at an agency in Toledo as an account manager before taking a job at NBC as a commercial producer for the local affiliate. After several years in creative production he went into a series of corporate marketing positions in NorthWest Ohio and SouthEast Michigan in a range of industries. He is currently the Marketing Manager at Rudolph Libbe Inc., a general contractor & construction manager, where he has been for over 5 years.
    He lives in Sylvania, OH with his wife and two children. He serves on several boards including the Board of Trustees for Leadership Toledo & the Ohio University College of Business Advisory Board.

    Federal and State Legal Issues Related to COVID-19

    As COVID-19 infections subside, it has become clear that post-COVID-19 workplaces will be different in many respects. This presentation will address current and anticipated legal issues which have emerged as a result of COVID-19 including:
    • New OSHA standards related to COVID-19 (and other infectious diseases);
    • Compensability, recordability and reportability of COVID-19 cases;
    • Addressing vaccine-related issues; and
    • Identifying and addressing legal and practical concerns with the dramatic increase in employees working from home or at other remote locations.

    BIO: Carl E. Habekost
    CARL E. HABEKOST joined Bugbee & Conkle, LLP in 2010. In 2018, Mr. Habekost became head of the Labor & Employment department at Bug-bee & Conkle. Mr. Habekost represents employers in all aspects of safety law, workers’ compensation law, labor law, and employment law. In addition, Mr. Habekost has earned an advanced, executive-level safety certification as a Certified Occupational Safety Manager which enables him to develop skills to build and manage effective safety programs to reduce injuries and control costs. Mr. Habekost has also earned OSHA 30 hour Certifications in General Industry & Construction. Mr. Habekost successfully defends employers’ interests at unemployment compensation hearings, before the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He also represents employers at all injury and compensation hearings under the Ohio workers’ compensation law before the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

    BIO: Jim Yates
    James B. Yates is a member of Eastman & Smith’s Labor and Employment Section. He represents public and private sector employers in all facets of labor and employment law matters including workplace safety issues such as OSHA, workers’ compensation, violations of specific safety requirements, and workplace intentional torts. He also defends employers in discrimination and wage and hour cases and consults with clients regarding the drafting and implementation of employment policies and conducts supervisor training. Jim is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).

    Bio: Dan Steffen
    Dan Steffen started his OSHA career in 2007, as a Safety Specialist in Region V’s Toledo, Ohio Area Office. In 2018, Dan was appointed to his current position of Assistant Area Director, where he guides a team of safety and health professionals in the performance of enforcement activities under the OSH Act. Dan works with employers, employees, trade organizations, and other stakeholders, to promote the agency’s cooperative programs, outreach, training, and overall mission. Dan holds a BS in Health Education from the University of Toledo.

    Bio: Chad Positano
    Chad started his OSHA career in 2002, as an Industrial Hygienist in Region V’s Toledo, Ohio Area Office. From 2010 to 2013 Chad was the Compliance Assistance Specialist, working with the Agency’s Cooperative Programs. In 2013, Chad began in his current position of Assistant Area Director. Chad holds a BS in Applied Health Science from Bowling Green State University, an MS degree in Occupational Health from the Medical College of Ohio, and an MPH degree from the Northwest Ohio Consortium for Public Health; he is also a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
